Rapid, thanks for the vote of confidence! Not sure I quite feel that confident myself but I hope the basics have been done.
Just to show my hand a bit, one of the reasons I want to set up a meeting is to confirm commitment. As you know, we need 40 shareholders (+-5 or so) to make the idea viable. These people need to be prepared to (a) shell out at least £250 pounds in capital and £40 a month for the foreseeable future and (b) take on the responsbililty of owning a racehorse, including its training (in terms of choosing a trainer and dealing with him/her), its welfare, its veterinary needs, and what happens to it after it leaves the control of the group. If members are not prepared to attend just one meeting, then in my opinion they are not prepared to take on the responsibility of owning a racehorse. There are plenty of schemes (Kim Bailey has one on offer at the moment) which allow people to buy all-in shares in a horse. But they will have no say in which horse it is, and probably not much say in training, running or welfare decisions.
If everyone is prepared to sit back and let me buy, place and run a horse in the groups' name, then I have to have guarantees of (a) payment of the required sums of money over a period of time and (b) willingness to participate in decisions which, in the worst possible scenario, might mean life or death for the horse.
I am not prepared to take this any further without those guarantees, and asking people to attend one meeting (in sufficient numbers to convince us that the idea is viable) is a pre-requisite. I wouldn't be prepared to operate in any other way, unless you would like me to become the syndicate manager and pay me a fee (a second career opens up before me!) This whole venture is supposed to be co-operative, and to get a horse which will run in the name of all of us, so all of us can be owners once every so often. With that privilege also comes responsibility, no matter how much you are prepared to pay!
I am quite happy to explore the possibility of buying shares in an existing scheme. But a Forum Horse won't exist unless enough people from the Forum are prepared to take an active part (which includes attending a meeting - not much to ask, I would have thought!)
Sorry to sound so negative, but I have already put some effort into this, and I want to know that others are prepared to put effort in too. Otherwise, we may just as well buy in to an existing syndicate as individuals. But it won't be so much fun!! _________________ UNEXPECTED WINNER 2009 FLAT 10 TO FOLLOW COMPETITION!
Time to put my case across, ive only been interested in horse racing for about 6 months now, i dont know a lot (if anything) about trainers or anything about the industry works, id be absoulety no use at a meeting, i also have a business to run, in an opticians and this keeps me quite busy, at the moment we are extending and adding more consulting rooms which is basically a 7 day a week job for the time being.
Having said all that i am still interested and like i said before would prefer a back seat role till im more "in the know" about the way things work, my knowledge is so bad i dont recognise any of the names you have out down for trainers so i cant be really expected to vote on which one is the best .
Currently I'll be able to make any of the October dates, but as Cheltenham is a favourite of mine, plus the meeting is more likely to attract others I would guess, maybe we should wait till 12th Nov.
I'm assuming York isn't happening now, as there has been very few confirmed attendees.
Just to warn people in advance a couple of things have developed which might give me a few financial worries but until I'm certain I'll come along for the meeting.
I'm happy to do the Cheltenham meeting in Nov, would have to be the Friday or the Saturday though - would be quite good fun - never been to Cheltenham before!!

Sky, at the moment I am going to York for my own interest - to see friends in the North and the St Leger, but very few others will be there, so I would count it out from your point of view (travel costs and so on). _________________ UNEXPECTED WINNER 2009 FLAT 10 TO FOLLOW COMPETITION!
I went to York but unfortunately none of the potential syndicate members were able to make it.
So it's try again time - 30 September Fontwell (Falbrav's Birthday Bash!) I know that quite a few of the potential members are going to be there - but this post is to encourage anyone who has expressed interest, lives within striking distance of Fontwell, and has not yet signed up to the discounted ticket (Premier, £15 instead of £20) to do their very best to come along.
I'll bring some papers people can take away with them.
I will review possibilities for another meet-up in October, but I think that there will be a number of takers for the Saturday of the Paddy Power meeting (Cheltenham 11 November). So keep watching the forum! _________________ UNEXPECTED WINNER 2009 FLAT 10 TO FOLLOW COMPETITION!

I reckon about 6, which should at least give us a handle on what people think. I am also touting for a meeting at the Paddy Power in November. Sorry you Scots couldn't make York. Keep the feedback coming, though - I have not been to Charlie Egerton's yet becaue I don't want to waste his time if there are not enough takers.
Will report after Fontwell. _________________ UNEXPECTED WINNER 2009 FLAT 10 TO FOLLOW COMPETITION!
Rapid - I wish, but I don't think there will be an awful lot of difference between trainers (for example, taking as a benchmark what they charge for boxing to meetings there is not much margin at all). But smaller trainers will probably charge a bit less (but not a great deal) than larger well-known ones.
Will report Sunday/Monday when back from Fontwell, hopefully in one piece. Will put a reminder about this on the Falbrav Fontwell thread. _________________ UNEXPECTED WINNER 2009 FLAT 10 TO FOLLOW COMPETITION!
