My mate at uni had a proper Black Country accent, and another one had a Southern drawl and then the lad next door had a Derby accent, and then one lad had a West Yorkshire accent, a melting pot of cultures!
I quite like the Yorkshire one, not keen on the Southern one, Milton Keynes onwards, sounds a bit whiny!
Some Welsh accents can be quite pleasant. Mostly when you hear a Welsh voice you think of Charlotte Church, which isn't good.
That's because she's from Cardiif Tags, I'm afraid when it came to giving out romantic soft sounding Welsh accents we were at the back of the queue. The Cardiff accent (and I have one) is horrible but as you go further west and north a little then the Welsh accent is a beautifull thing. Until you reach North Wales where they all speak through their noses and sound like they're permanently on the Beachams!
Binge, I agree (I have to, because I live in West Wales, though my mum was from Cerdiff!) My own accent is probably RP sort of, comes of many years in the Diplomatic Service! I can do accents quite well, but it can be embarrassing because I tend to pick up the accent of the person speaking to me, and they think I'm taking the p***.
Geordie and Afrikaaner are the two most difficut to imitate. But I used to go to Newcastle quite a lot, and can now recite the "Moses" monologue quite well, can also do the Lambton Worm! _________________ UNEXPECTED WINNER 2009 FLAT 10 TO FOLLOW COMPETITION!
What I find annoying where I come from is that actors and try their best to lose their N.Irish accent, then when they come back and have to play the part of local, they put on such a really crappy fake version of it! Amanda Burton is a prime example of this - her accent is atrocious, sounds like a poor parody of a Northern Irish accent, I can't watch a programme she is in because of it.
Does anyone else notice this in other parts of U.K./Ireland?
The only actor from round these parts is Stephen Fry(who we are incredibly proud of as he is proof that not all Norfolk Folk are carrot crunching halfwits) but he definitely hasn't got a Norfolk accent and I can't imagine he ever did have(somehow Stephen Fry asking someone "Ha' Ya Got a Loight Boy?" seems inconceivable ) so it probably isn't a fair comparison.
Jenny, The Welsh accent is the hardest to do(probably not for you admittedly). Every time I attempt it I go into Pakistani!!! _________________ You're born with nothing, and better off that way,

1) The way they talk in Eastenders. Absolutely hate that dreadful noise. Endemic on the streets of Romford, Basildon and all over East London. Truly horrible.
2) Scouse accent on women i.e. those munters from Atomic Kitten. Simply awful.
3) Thick country accent from Gloucestershire, Somerset etc. Hurts.
4) My accent - Totally non-descript. I could be from anywhere.

1) Yorkshire - lived in Sheffield for four years. They talk properly up there.
I think most accents, if they're soft-spoken are ok, with the possibe exception of country(??) accents - Bristol, Somerset, Gloucester etc - do think they sound retarded.
Flubs, I have said that I don't like Dublin accent, but if it's the posher end and if they're female and sexy (accent becomes immaterial then!), then they're acceptable to me.
