Just a side note in general, when we were trying to form some sort of guidelines for what we wanted to do. We had very little input from the board. If we had had more input it would really have helped to model things as to whay you guys, the users, want to see here.

Sorry, I must have missed that.

I've spent a lot of time on the internet since returning to the UK and "working" in offices. I've posted regularly on 3 or 4 message boards, with varying degrees of moderation and different policies. The main thing I have learnt is that it is very difficult to express light-hearted sarcasm effectively online, and consequently very easy to unintentionally offend. That's why I think posters should be encouraged to use the pm system to clarify directly with someone. I also think it's a bit unseemly for moderators to disagree with each other in public- again use the pm system to sort it out in private.

Something that seems fairly universal among message boards is that it's frowned upon to cut and paste a news story and post it up without comment. I think it's better to summarise the story briefly in your own words, link to the main article and then offer questions for debate.

Re the tidiness issue, as a general guideline I reckon one thread per race is fine. The big meetings often warrant several threads.

Sky, sounds like a challenge to me....

Tafkab......Thats exactly what we do. If i think someone is making an insult, as against just banter, i try and deal with it.
Your also correct in how we deal with dealing posts. The difference is that you guys on the board dont get to see any PMs we have had and may assume we are just being over fussy.

Edited to add.

"I would hope and am sure that Skanky and his team have a clear policy now on moderation?"

Jezza the policy is simple, we follow the guidelines and use or best judgement. However we are not perfect and will get things wrong at some point.

Cheers for the reply alan. i hope i didn't come across as having a dig at the mods. it was meant to be more of a back up to you guys.
I wouldn't have the time or the inclination to do what you guys do so i can guarantee you will never hear me having a go.

How can people go from being a mod to being banned? Kickingkyle and chugga have been banned for banter.

Exactly

Chugga and Kickingkyle were banned for banter , fair enough remove the mod rights , but banning was over the top in my honest opinion.

I didn't ban Kyle and Chugga, I deactivated their accounts as a temporary measure as I felt they were making some very rash comments in the heat of the moment. Their accounts will be reactivated later on this morning.

I hope that they understand that their comments were viewed as a little worse than just "banter".

Sorry to edit your post but these comments are NOT needed. Time and time again we get them.

I made a huge mistake in not informing you and for that I am very sorry but several warnings were made that I will NOT stand for public digs towards other members.

There are no hard feelings but we do NOT tolerate personal comments towards other members. That sort of behaviour is going to get you labelled as a WUM.

Guys,

What's actually gone on? I didn't realise that people actually got banned/suspended over what happened yesterday. I must have missed some of it yesterday because I don't think Chugga and Kyle (DavidBanner and Bizzo) were that harsh on Jej on the threads that got locked. Has she been banned for something else that's gone on?

I'm confused Will they get their old names back when their accounts are reactivated?
