That is 9 years in a row now the winner has come from a rating of between 136-144

That's a stat you can't ignore. You and Owl ae probably right he'll be too high up in the handicap.

What sort of weight would Butlers Cabin carry, below the mystical 11st.

I'd imagine it will be pretty close to it. If a similar field to this years one shows up point barrow was on 10st12lb Butlers Cabin around there as well !!!

I would think Butlers Cabin will be up over that 140 mark already for winning the Irish National.

Had a great day at the national yesterday!

Didn't get a sniff of a winner all day in other races, but that didn't matter as my ante post ew bets on Silver Birch (40s) and McKelvey (33s) romped in

Great to see McKelvey go so close. I was also pleased to see Slim Pickings and Philson Run go so well after being tipped on here as value ew bets, sadly I didn't take the advice but I know lots on here did so well done to you all.

Agree that the start needs looking at. Starter should have let them go first time, after that I think the jockeys were also to blame, as some would not back off the tape and take a turn.

Have got some photos from paddock side before the national, including Silver Birch, McKelvey and Philson Run. I'll post them when I get a chance.

I also video'd the finish, which I'll post to You Tube, only cos its amusing to hear me shouting myself hoarse! (pun intended)

COME ON SILVER BIRCH COME ON McKELVEEEEEEYYYYYYYY

Great day! Can highly recommend the Princess Royal Stand Roof, view is amazing

I'm going to go back next year as was impressed by the new stands. Have only been twice before (Bobbyjo & Hedgehunter) but fancy going to the Thursday rather than National day next time.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have a tenner each way @66/1 for Silver Birch for the National. Has won @ Aintree, has won a Welsh National which confirms he is an out and out stayer. When trained by Nicholls last year, Silver Birch was favourite for the race but fell out of love with the game until he went to the National and was running a blinder until being hampered and crashing out. With a smaller trainer in Ireland he has really come on leaps and bounds and run a cracking trial in the Cross Country. I would not usually back a horse who run at Cheltenham but there is monthsbreak this year until Aintree which gives him plenty of time to recover!!

Had a cracking day, managed to win friends and family 25,000 in total because of Silver Birch. I even lost faith in the horse before the race because the good was riding faster than good to soft.

Nice one Mdilla, great bet. I bet the party was good.

Was talking to a pal yesterday morning and we decided that an outsider would win, maybe 50/1.

You are dead right about his form as it was ideal, also to the fact that he won a Welsh National and a becher chase.

Well done

Harchiefan, very unlucky chap, l was resigned to picking my up my place money 100 yards from home. It actually looked closer on course that TV. It was my first time at the National and I have been a member at Cheltenham for three years and the atmosphere was electric and in a different league to Gold Cup. (Just my opinion, before the backlash, but Aintree is a very unique experience.

Morning gang,

I left my GN bet until Saturday morning (was hoping for some sort of inspirational tip to come to me in a dream). Went for The Hedge to win, and couldn't choose between Bewley's Berry and Silver Birch, so backed both e-w. Birchy was 28s in Corals, but foolish Mr Ladbroke round the corner was offering 40s, so helped myself. Very nice profit off a small bet, and paid for a banging Saturday night out, with several notes left over for a good day out at the Guineas.

I know Philson and Slim P were mentioned on here- hope people got some good e-w returns from them.

For these compilers of the stats to narrow down the field to what can or can't win. If cheek pieces count as head gear do nosebands?
