I have to say that this does not surprise me - in the wilds of west Wales I would guess that either the stewards were drunk or the horse bolted and more likely both....I recall once being pressed into service as Clerk of the Scales at a meeting in Essex, because a barrister friend who had been asked to act didn't know whether you weighed the jockey, the horse or the owner!!

Entries for the Aintree Foxhunters (Thursday) - from Sporting Life website.

Some interesting absentees:

Bica (Sam Waley-Cohen is down to ride Alvino, so presume Bica is out)

Whyso Mayo (entered for Irish National and we can now presume his target is that race)

Red Brook Lad (ran last Thursday, 3rd and connections probably think this is too soon)

Sonevafushi

Chita's Flight (not over-tried on last outing, so presume they think this is a step too far at present)

Some interesting entries:

River Dante (if the jock can stop him running out!)

Arctic Times (won a point in Ireland last weekend with ease, but has yet to show his quality in the top division)

Ghadames (run out of it latest at Sedgefield but might thrive here)

Drombeag (won the Foxhunters at the Festival - can he repeat the dose?)

Depending on the weather, and it looks as though it is going to be pretty dry, (Aintree are watering I gather), I expect the going on the day to be good, good/soft places. There's a field size limit of 30, so at least some of these will come out, and probably quite a few. Will review later in the week.

2m5 isn't all that far, but those fences do tend to get in the way!

Bica not entered even after Katarino's unfortunate injury, shame. Back to the form book then!

Indeed - though I wasn't 100% sure of Bica's credentials anyway! I'm currently hovering betweem Arctic Times, Ghadames, Le Passing and Scots Grey. No doubt that will change too! With a VERY speculative bet (if he stays in) on River Dante. At least he won't find it so easy to run out at Aintree!

Just scanning the entries Le Passing would be the likely favourite wouldn't he?

Shame to see Cobreces missing from the entries too, always been a favourite of mine although has had a couple of goes at this course before now.

I suspect so, but I think this is going to be a puzzler with so many "faces" absent. I notice also that some horses who have recently(ish) made the move from chasing to hunters aren't entered - Risk Accessor, Foly Pleasant and Exit Swinger for starters (although I think at least one of these - Exit Swinger? - holds an entry in the meeting for another race). We are also missing some notable Irish entries apart from Whyso Mayo - Nebeltau (who disappointed earlier this season), Charlie Lenihan, Don't be Daft and Oscar India being four.

If I were to opt at this stage I would probably (if the field gets significantly smaller) opt for Whitenzo and/or Mouseski, who has had an excellent season so far. But a liking fior fastish ground and a flat track will be crucial. You are right in that Le Passing will probably be favourite, but I think only because of the Nicholls/Greenall combination.

Oh dear, it's all very difficult!

Certainly is. I'd missed Mouseki when looking at the entries. He'll challenge Le Passing for favouratism. You'd also expect Ned Kelly to be better treated by this trip than that of the Cheltenham Foxhunter so his third there should have him spot on for this and I don't think that's doing a dis-service to the winner that day Drombeag who's also entered by not mentioning him because I just can't see him following up.

Agree about Ned Kelly, also about Drombeag - it would be a training and riding triumph of the first order to win both in the season - incidentally, do you know if this has ever been done before? Did Katarino?

Good oh! He will we hope now enjoy himself winning points rather than hacking round miles behind championship fields! I'm sure I saw Turnium entered in a smallish race in Ireland over the winter, too.

PS Maybe the Aintree Foxhunters will be the one where Arctic Times shows what he can do! He should be spot on for fitness, having won that point in Ireland the other week. I swear I will have a bit on him come Thursday if he stays in!

Today at Towcester, I have backed Rebel Army and Lady Baronette e/w (both of them!) Betfair odds of 6s (Rebel Army) and 16s (Lady Baronette). Just for fun!!

Jenny im pretty sure Arctic Times has the most ptp wins in Ireland this season. Im hoping that the field isnt too big, i dont think he likes the hustle and bustle.

I doubt you'll get your wish asc. It's been 30 runners the last two years and 25 three years ago when Forest Gunner won.

Its a shame Binge, in smaller fields id back him every time, the horse has enormous talent.
