Latin Lad Showed that his Maiden win at 33/1 was no fluke by going close in a well contested race at Newbury. On rain soften ground he only just failed to catch the winner putting in all his best work at the finish. Looks as if a Mile is what he needs & he copes well with quick & slow going. Will not be surprised if he improves more on his two runs so far. _________________ SBH Comp 2008 - Runner Up
Hampton, in that same race I liked the look of the nicely bred Melodramatic, who picked up well before tiring a bit at the end and eventually finishing a close 4th- will surely come on for that. _________________ Known as the catch of the camp.
I'm hopefull that in time it could well turn out to have been a good race on Saturday. I know the weather was a tad poor but the main contenders came through it well. Will look out for yours too. _________________ SBH Comp 2008 - Runner Up
I see that Under The Rainbow, whose pedigree I like a lot, plugged on for 4th at a big price in the Y Oaks today- obviously not in the same league as the winner or second, and not Group 1 class, but I think she may pick up a lower level race at some point. _________________ Known as the catch of the camp.
Dubia Dynamo Ran in the Nursery on the first day of York. Ran on very well to finish 4th. Sprint races are it's target areas & I can see it doing well in them. May be one to watch out for in decent Sprint Handicaps next season. _________________ SBH Comp 2008 - Runner Up
Counsel's Opinion is jocked up for a 10.5 furlong, 0-80 Class 4 handicap at Warwick on 27/8 ... regular pilot G.Baker booked. Runs off 80 here and is 9lb lower than when recording an RPR of 90 in a class 2 handicap at Sandown 3 starts ago. Will surely be trying his nuts off and hopefully be a nice price if a few turn up _________________ RJI
Counsell's Opinion, that old handicapper, has finally come down to a mark that he can be competitive off. Ran off 81 at Sandown today in a 9 furlong race and was staying on very nicely at the end. Produced an RPR of 91 3 starts ago and if getting ideal conditions can finally end his losing run.
I would suggest a handicap, restricted to 4yo+ (to avoid those pesky 3yos) and at least 10 furlongs. Ideally a true run race so that he would be capable of running to his RPR.
Certainly the trainer will be keen to find a race ...hopefully will pick the right one.
I will give him 3 chances
yes indeed this fellow does run on monday at Warwick..get on _________________ RJI
Alexander Castle - winner of a 2-year old maiden at Newcastle yesterday. He is a son of Lemon Drop Kid and runs in the same colours as Alexander Goldrun. He holds entries in some big races including the Champagne Stakes, Royal Lodge, Dewhurst and Racing Post Trophy. Kevin Ryan was quoted as saying "We have always thought a lot of him. I wouldn't have put him in the racesI have if I didn't. He did it hands and heels today, so he should come out of the race all right and we may give him another run before we go for something better. There is improvement to come".
Ronaldsay Ran at Goodwood on Sunday. Was held up at the back by Richard Hughes a such sign they were confident the horse would see out the 1m2f trip. Started to make up ground once pulled out for a run. Keeping on but the horses up front weren't stopping but was finishing full of running for 4th place. A tad unlucky the race before when again held up but meeting trouble in running. Loks as if he will get further than the 1m2f he ran over on Sunday. One too look out for in handicaps towards the end of the season. _________________ SBH Comp 2008 - Runner Up
Shine And Rise - won very impressively yesterday at Kempton with any amount in hand. First time over 2 miles and won without being pushed setting a course record in the process. Definitely more to come from this horse who can handle both turf and artificial surfaces.
Can I add One Called Alice. 2yo by Zilzal, completely missed the break at Wolverhampton on Monday, so much so she was unsighted through most of the race but she nearly flew home for fourth. Not a very good race but if she can stay awake in the stalls she has an impressive kick which must be of use in a race somewhere, someday
This ONE CALLED ALICE goes tonight in the first at Wolverhampton. It is a claiming race so there is every chance she could show up well. However there are others in front at the betting that should make a race of it. I may go e/w to small stakes as I have not had time to look properly. _________________ Greet people with four kisses - one for each cheek... Duke Ellington
Please can we add Naughty Frida, 2yo filly trained by Ed Dunlop. Ran 4th at Salisbury today on second start in maiden race for fillies and colts. First start at Glorious Goodwood, fillies only race can be struck out really. Likely to pick something up sooner rather than later given the improvement between those two starts. _________________ Greet people with four kisses - one for each cheek... Duke Ellington
Was slowly away & then got hampered by a horse crossing it at the start. This ment he was out the back early. Started to make ground when again not getting a clear run. Ran on again to finish just behind the leaders. Seems to handle any ground.
It was along time ago that I put this one up & like alot of Akehurts horses he runs abit in & out! Has just been run out of it in two races & at nice odds too including at Goodwood on Monday!! Maybe he won't get his head in front as the handicapper will take note of his close 2nds. I still hope he'll win before the seasons out! _________________ SBH Comp 2008 - Runner Up

Runs in the 4.05 Newbury today.
I hoping that Hughes doesn't hold him up too long today & he keeps out of trouble as he's has a very good chance of winning this. Paper fav in the RP. Gibb for Barry Hills off bottom weight looks the danger. _________________ SBH Comp 2008 - Runner Up

2nd & a fast finishing one at that!!
In truth the race was no run to suit with a slow pace & he got abit tapped for toe, but once again ran on very well. I still think he wants further, but maybe just needs a really strongly run race to bring out his galloping style.
