I was pissed that the Derby moved from London, but with the shambles London Greyhound racing had become it was always on the cards.

Towcester have taken the mantle and so far this seasons Derby is brilliant. the track possibly favours the inside runners but this is something that can be changed by a few alterations.

The coverage via You Tube is FREE and informative. Towcester already screen racing around the world after a deal with SIS. Coverage includes interviews with trainers, owners, bookies and kennel staff.

Last years winner Tyrur Shay run a blinder to win his heat easily after getting into all sorts of trouble. Clares Rocket hasnt got his starting right yet but is unbeaten. I am waiting for Astute Missile to ping the lids but he has an awful draw in the semis and may not get a clear run.

All in all, I am hugely impressed after being very cynical before the move from my beloved Wimbledon, soon to be more flats etc etc.

There is no doubting the impact Towcester has made on the greyhound world in a short space of time. The trainers certainly love it. ( Back in the day i tried to convince a developer mate of mine to build a super modern track near to junction 21 of the M1. He has seen the success of Towcester and told me he wishes he had done it rather than the industrial eyesore he put up.)

Its a shame though they gave up many racing fixtures including my Saturday bus trip on the November Saturday and spoiled a bit for me the feel of the place for horse racing but commercially its been a success.

I got it wrong about Tyrur Shah, he won the Irish Juvenille Derby last year. The 2016 Derby was won by Jaytee Jet. This was at Wimbledon with a massive crowd for what was to be the last final won there.

One dog to note from that, who has made next Saturdays final, is Hiya Butt. He was drawn five last year, a disaster for a railer, but he still hit the first bend in front and wasnt picked up until a few yards from the line. He runs in Trap One Saturday and the draw gives him a great chance.

Clares Rocket is drawn in Trap Three so needs to really ping, if he misses the break its good night nurse, likewise for another I quietly fancy, Astute Missile in Trap Four. Tyrur Shay runs on late and is drawn in Trap Five. He is probably the best finisher in the race but doeasnt want to find any trouble.

On paper this race is between Clares Rocket and Tyrur Shay, but believe me, its a very open Open. I have already had small bets on Astute Missile and Hiya Butt at reasonable prices.

OMG.......... I had Astute Missile ante post £7 @ 100/1 and £6 @ †80/1

I had some savers but have just over a grand clear profit. 5%  comms to betfair

Hiya Butt and Astute Missile pinged with Hiya Butt just ahead at the bend. Astute Missile got inside the one dog round the next bend and it was heart in mouth time as i expected the first two in the betting might pick him uo in the home straight.Clares Rocket in three was squezed out but ran on well to finish third. Tyrur Shay finished fast and late but just got held off in second.

Thank you. TBH I was more pleased with how Towcester and Starsports gave the race a high profile.

Incidently, Ben Keith, Starsports boss was concerned about Jaytee Jet winning outright before the semis, he said that was his biggest loser antepost. Thats some shout, given Tyrur Shay and Clares Rocket, antepost fav and second fav, were still in the competition.

Someone obviously fancied Jaytee Jet to retain his 2016 crown strongly, so I cant see why he is 33/1 for the Irish equivelent and TS and CR head the betting. I am already on Jet when the show moves across to Shelbourne Park next month.

Changed more pleased to almost as pleased.....lol.
M.O.T due tomorrow and I have been getting dodgy noises from the steering and breaks... that win could be very timely indeed.

Astute Missile broke a hock in a trial race on Thursday and while recovery from that looks okay, he does seem prone to injury. I hope it isnt true but the trainer states he may not race again. ( Dog not trainer)

Seamus does have an exciting prospect in his kennels in Droopys Gold though.
